Eleven-year-old Lena has always dreamed of going to school, but when she finally gets the chance, nothing goes as planned. Her best friend, Sara, is in another class, her teacher is mean, and her only dress is ruined. To make matters worse, in the small company town of Proctor, housing and swimming are separated by race, and so are friends like Sara and Lena. How can Sara solve a problem that big?
